Aurora Manicure

So the next up in my Disney Princess manicure series is my all time favourite princess, Aurora aka Briar Rose aka Sleeping Beauty. So after being inspired by the whole Good Fairy, desk-making/cake-baking scene which is one of my favourites. This is what I came up with.

I started with Zoya "Lo" from the "The Hills" series
A gorgeous pink creme

Then I grabbed OPI Ogre-the-Top Blue from the Shrek Collection
A deep sky blue creme

Two coats of each later and ta-da!
Princess Aurora nails.

My next post won't be princess nails but the Princess nails will be back sometime next week at the latest.

Belle Manicure

So this past week I was talking to Chelsea about trying to find the Disney Designer Princess Polishes on eBay. For those who don't know me I am one of the biggest Disney freaks ever. So checking eBay I found the 10 piece set for about $60 not including shipping which was at least $10 so roughly $7 a bottle. Not too pricey, but considering this whole set retailed for $20 something in me said "No" so I let the polishes go. In talking to Miss Chelsea we decided why the heck couldn't I do Princess inspired nails??
So in honour of Beauty and the Beast coming out in 3D this month the first princess I decided to feature is Belle, Belle is one of my top two favourite Princesses (the other to be revealed later).

So I grabbed Orly Hook Up, One of the prettiest yellow shimmers I've ever seen.

And Layla Magneffect in Golden Nugget

And Color Club Take the Stage

Now the idea behind using the magnetic polish on the accent finger was to represent her iconic dress. However I wish the colour was more gold. I don't think it looks bad persay but I do think it looks out of place. I used the glitter on the tips of all the yellow nails, while using more on my thumb nail.

After taking these pictures I tried going over the magnetic polish with a thin coat of Hook Up to see if the effect would show through. Nope no go so I'm going to have to re-do my finger and I'll probably just re-do it in the yellow with glitter tips.

Overall I quite like this. Stay tuned to see which Princess is next!

Mystery Revealed!

So a couple posts back I talked about how I had picked up some special colours to do a post especially for my older "sista-from-anotha-mista" Chelsea, bahaha thats going to gross her out. So Chelsea's fave colour is definitely purple. One of her LEAST favourite people on the planet is Justin Bieber (okay thats probably a stretch... but I'm guessing he's probably in her bottom 50 at least)
So me, being a nerd thinks the best thing ever is to do a manicure devoted both to Chelsea and Justin Bieber! (I am a fan btw)
So these were the two polishes I picked up.
Prized Possession Purple & One Less Lonely Glitter
both from Nicole by OPI's Justin Bieber line.

The polish goes on a little thin so this is 3 coats of Prized Possession Purple and 1 coat of One Less Lonely glitter on the ring fingers.
It's beautiful, I love it and will be singing JB songs for the rest of the day.
ENJOY!

OPI Siberian Nights

Okay so I'm sure I've said this before but about 85% of the time I buy polish purely based on the name. If a polish has a bitchin' name more often than not I'll buy it. So when I ordered this polish it wasn't because it's a really nice dark vampy plum colour. Nope.

It was purely because of in my mind Siberian Nights -> Siberian Husky -> This handsome man.

This is Simba, he was my first dog, a 13 year old Siberian Husky who passed away in 2008. I miss him all the time but he's in a better place now. He was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma (yeah I probably misspelled that) around 11 1/2 years old and he had a grapefruit sized tumor on the side of his cheek. It breaks my heart just thinking about it. So anyways thats why I bought this polish.

So without further adieu here's OPI Siberian Nights with matte tips!

And as a parting gift this was one of the last photos ever taken of Simba. About a month before he died.

My First Water Marble

Okay so I've been wanting to try a water marble for a long time. Ever since I saw the technique in a Teen People Magazine like 10 years ago. So today when Nail Polish Canada posted a link to Colores de Carol's Nicki Minaj water marble manicure.
I had to try it considering that I had recieved these coloirs in the mail on friday.
So disclaimer: This is my first water marble, I really had no clue what I was doing, it took me a while to hit my stride. I did my best to clean things up but will try to post updated pics tomorrow after I absent mindedly clean the polish of my skin at work tomorrow. (Thats pretty much just the way it works)
All in all I think it turned out pretty neat for my first try.

Colours used:
OPI Pink Friday
OPI Did It On 'Em
OPI Fly
Basecoat: OPI Nail Envy Matte/Essie Blanc
Top Coat: Seche Vite
This was my first hand that I did, I'm also aware my fingers are green.

This was the second hand... it's probably the best minus my middle finger. Water bubble. Thats all I'm saying about that sucker.

Love the ring finger.

Green thumb?? Will my plants start to grow now?

Love this one.

Not too bad all in all.... next time at least I'll have an idea what I'm doing. I'll also be TAPING off my fingers. :)

Blue Pearl Ombre

So before we start I need to tell you about the dream I had last night. So apparently I had some latent anxiety about coming to work today. Probably because the rest of the the girls in my posse are still on vacation and there was supposed to be a new girl starting. So anyways in my dream, new girl turned out to be a total putz. I had to take down 3 huge christmas trees (seriously, I needed a ladder and almost killed myself in my dream). However as a random turn of events both Mark & Donnie Wahlberg both had gotten jobs as Project Managers, and needless to say I was at my desk yelling DONNIE D! I NEEEED YOU! I NEED BACK UP! (this is where I start reciting "Good Vibrations" lyrics in my head) and THEEEENNN my alarm went off and I woke up thinking "whhhattt the f**k is THAT!?" even though my alarm has been the same for like a million months.

Okay anyways that was my crazy cracked out dream.
Needless to say when I arrived at work neither of the Walhbergs had taken a job.
On with the SHOW.

Super subtle blue ombre nails.
The photos don't really do it justice. I wasn't 100% sure I was going to like it but I'm actually loving it.

So I started with 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow (I won't post the bottle pic because I've posted it before)
Then grabbed SpaRitual She's A River
I don't think I've actually ever used this polish before and I've had it for .... too many years.
It's a opalescent pearly blue colour.

I layered it four times starting about 3/4 the way down my nail with the sections getting smaller.
Then slapped on some SV.
Heres how it turned out.
Looks better in person. I wish I could take a picture with my eyeballs

I got in a fight with the christmas tree at work which is why my hands are all beat up. Just in case you were wondering. You probably weren't.

OPI Russian Navy Suede

So can I be the first to say I do NOT want to go back to work tomorrow :( Nope I would much rather stay home and watch a bunch of boxsets. Guess thats not an option though. Oh well, back to the daily grind.
Anywho so I was totally indecisive about what colour to paint my nails so I decided to just try something basic. Initially the plan was to use a light colour because I knew I wanted to use a silver for new years (Yeah these nails were Pre-NYE manicure) but clearly my brain short circuited on that fact somewhere so I grabbed a polish I had yet to try.
OPI Russian Navy Suede.
A Navy blue shimmer matte.
While I really like the polish, I almost like it in the bottle more. It kinda looks like Denim which is fine, but I was kind of bored by it. So in attempt to mix things up a bit I just added a top coat.

With the top coat (below). I like it better with the top coat which of course defeats the purpose of the whole Suede effect to begin with. Who knows I'm kind of wishy washy I may change my mind.
