SV Top Coat Test Drive Day 2

Okay so before I get into this post, sidebar: I just got home from seeing Breaking Dawn. Holy banana crackers... what a awful movie. Now, okay I will be the first to admit yes the Twilight movies are a guilty pleasure, I love to hate them. Really though??? Jacob was shirtless all of like 1 time and lets face it his abs are really the only reason I would pay 12 bucks to see those movies anywhere but the comfort of my own couch. Bleh. I'm going to have nightmares about Bella, her alien body, and those monster huge teeth of hers.

So back to why you came here. No new nails for me but I have Top Coat picture updates from Sidekick extraordinaire Chelsea. Who is in my bad books right now because AFTER giving her older sister crap about opening all her Christmas gifts, guess who went and opened the Christmas gift that I gave her. Yep, Chelsea. I hope you wind up reading this Hayley, I gave her crap already don't you worry.

Okay pictures! Seche Vite Top Coat Test Drive Day 2

So aside from some some minor chipping around the edges after typing all day looks pretty good!
Check back tomorrow to see if she chipped her nails after opening presents BEFORE christmas.

Elf Nails

Today after being convinced that my nail polish collection was getting out of hand, I pulled out all my polish and lined them up in colour categories.

The long and short of it is I have a longggggg way to go before I am "out of control"

Alright to the nails.
So Christmas/My Birthday is just a few short days away so I decided I needed some really christmassy nails. Initially I wanted to try another gradient however that didn't quite work out so instead what I have are nails that remind me of elves. I had to work soooo hard not to add glitter but in the end I decided less was more. So first I grabbed my OPI Ali's Big Break Mini.

This bottle is nearing the end so I thought I'd share a swatch while I could. I tried to clean up my nails as best I could but considering I was mid manicure there are lots of tiny flakes so please bear with me. I love this colour, I sure will miss it when it's gone but then on to red favourite reds right? Just agree with me okay.

From here I grabbed my new Christmas green, Zoya Holly and TADA.
Elf nails. Easy peasy christmas-squeezey.

Okay so heres something new and exciting. Today Chelsea and I recieved yet another nail polish order. WOOHOO including Seche Vite topcoat which has obviously recieved rave reviews from everyone and every nail blogger seems to worship it. Chelsea seemed a tad skeptical so she's going to test it out for wear and tear because her nail ADD is not nearly as bad as mine.
So without further ado here is day one of Chelsea's Seche Vite Test Drive.

Her nail formula consists of Essie Fill The Gap basecoat.
3 coats Essie Splash of Grenadine
(seriously Essie people I've never seen real grenadine that colour... just saying. Still love the colour)
1 Coat Seche Vite.
We'll keep you updated on this!

Stay tuned!

Aruba Blue Glitter Gradient

Good news! All my christmas shopping is done. Okay thats a lie I have one more gift to get but I only have to go pick it up so I'm not counting that one. Other good news I picked up a bunch of new polishes on my travels yesterday, before and after I had to run out to the barn to see Breezer who had hurt himself... I won't go into detail cause it's yucky. Bottomline, he should be okay and YAY new polishes.

I'm going to have to show most of them to you another day because Chelsea and her hubby got a puppy and I was just informed that I can go squish him in 45 minutes!

So my newsprint nails finally bit the dust. (sad face) So I decided to try one of my new polishes
Essie Aruba Blue. So pretty.

And OPI Servin' Up The Sparkle

I wanted to try this gradient technique I'd seen. It didn't work as well as I would have liked because everyone knows glitter can be fickle. But all in all I don't think it turned out too bad at all.
Kinda seems wintery? I think so. The gradient technique would definitely work better with a shimmer but since the colour I would have used is still a SECRET i didn't want to accidently shoot myself in the foot. Although my toes are currently all done up in mystery colours and I'm loving it!

Because I like this my next post will probably just be full of all the colours I got yesterday. 1 week until my birthday!! just so everyone knows!!

So after getting in trouble from my sidekick. heres an updated photo. I finally brought my real camera downstairs.

Get to know me.

Okay so before I get to the heart of this post EEEEEEEEEE I got my Nail Polish Canada order I placed on Monday! There were four polishes in this package and I've decided to share them with you.
OPI- Warm and Fozzie
This is a goldy-brown colour. Can't wait to try it out, really liked the way the watch looked.
Zoya - Holly
I needed a holiday green, this should fit the bill perfectly.
Orly - Hook Up
I had pedicure once with this colour, loved it so much.
OPI - My Private Jet
I read that there are two types of MPJ, a charcoal holo and a chocolatey brown shimmer. This one turned out to be the latter, i was hoping for charcoal but it's still really pretty none-the-less.
I also picked up 2 more mystery colours from Rexall today. They're going to be featured in an upcoming post so until then, ooooh MYSTERY.

Back to our scheduled program:
Okay so by no means am I kidding myself by thinking more than 2-3 people read this BUT lets just pretend. So considering I am still MADLY in love with my newsprint nails they're going to be sticking around for a few days. So I'm taking this opportunity to tell you a story, all about how my life got flipped upside down.... err wait that's another guy.

So allow me to introduce myself. I'm Caitlin, 23 years old (again I'm rounding up, because 23 is my lucky number and if I can be twenty three for longer than 12 months YAY). The loves of my life (so far) are the following:

In order they are Breezer, Briar Rose & Timmi. I'll probably talk about Briar a lot, she's sitting here with me as I blog, she'll probably occasionally throw in her two cents here and there as well.
I've been riding for almost 13 years, and in the past few years have started getting into showing competitively.
I love anything and everything Zebra print (which you'll probably see a lot of).
I have 7 tattoos (so far).
I have an obscenely huge DVD/Blu Ray/Boxset collection.
My all time fave show is One Tree Hill, I'm actually watching it on DVD right now.
Favourite bands are The Goo Goo Dolls & Maroon 5, and no I'm not a Maroon 5 moves like jagger bandwagon jumper, I've loved them since Songs about Jane... just for the record.
Favourite Movie is 10 Inch Hero... yeah it sounds dirty but its really not.
I am a Disney FREAK.
I don't really like cats at all but I love looking at stupid pictures of them on the Internet.
I'm extremely sarcastic and can be quite mean sometimes. Not to the three of you reading this though, I love you guys.
Ummm i don't know if you have any random questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.

More nails SOON!!!!
and as a parting gift here is Briar in a santa hat!

Newsprint Nails!

Alright so a couple exciting things before I get started.

The Nicki Minaj OPI collection comes out in January! Theres a few polishes from this line that I'm craving but I'll keep a lid on it until the collection actually comes out.
Okay it's Fly and Save Me. I have no self control.

Alright second thing.
China Glaze Colours from the Capitol is coming out in March, just in time for the Hunger Games movie! Yep thats the geek in my coming out. Head on over to All Lacquered up to see the colours. So excited!!

Okay so down to business. Around 2:00 my mission in life was to rid myself of my candy cane nails. By 4:30 candy canes were gone and with the help of my trusty sidekick Newspaper nails were suggested. Challenge accepted! alright so what you need for this is simple. Light base colour, newspaper, rubbing alcohol (although Chelsea said she read you can use regular alcohol??? not sure if thats true or not.) and a top coat.

For my base colour I chose OPI Skull & Glossbones.
It's a really gorgeous gentle grey. (and yes the bottle I have is a mini, considering how often I change my mind minis are great)

Then after 2 coats were completely dry, I poured a small amount of rubbing alcohol into a dish then dipped my nail into the alcohol for around 5 seconds then took the newsprint and pressed it onto my nail for 15 seconds then gently peeled it away and TA DA newsprint nails.
Just seal with top coat and DONE!!!

Remove excess words from fingers with a bit of nail polish remover.

Candy Cane Nails

Alright so after wearing this manicure for a day theres a few things I noticed.
1. It survived a trip to the barn and is chip free so it's obviously made to last.
2. It's a people pleaser (if those people like christmas... or just really like candy canes)
3. To quote Cher from Clueless "it's a full-on monet" as in totally cute from far away but a hot mess close up.

See from afar:

Close up:
Hot Mess:

I'm going to try touching it up tonight a bit and see if that makes it look less sloppy.

Okay so sidebar. This isn't nail related but this is my blog and I do what I want.
So for anyone on pinterest. ENOUGH with this bucket list crap. First off I don't care, NO ONE CARES. I don't need a board full of stuff reminding me of stuff I'd love to do but is highly unlikely.
Yeah I'd like to meet Adam Levine too, I'd also like him to roll me in sprinkles and lick them off. Guess what though, it's PROBABLY not going to ever happen, and if it does it won't be because I pinned some stupid thing to a pinterest board, it'll be by sheer luck. So until then I'll just continue to pin shirtless pictures of him and day dream.
Pinterest is about the food, the DIYs, the funny pics, the pictures of baby animals, houses I'll never have, and make up I'll never figure out. Lets keep it that way.

Welcome to the madness

Okay so everyone can from here on out blame this on Chelsea. Miss "you should really start a blog" welp alright. So lets get something straight, if you want to see perfect nails... stop right there. I am far to lazy and impatient to get my nails perfect. What you will see is your average 23 (okay 22 right now but lets round up shall we?) year old girl try (and fail most of the time) different nail techniques and polishes. You'll see lots of red, lots of sparkle and lots of bright colors. I paint all oover my nail beds and my nails are right now tinted blue from a manicure I did weeks ago (whoops).
Somehow I went from being a reformed nail biter (thank god I broke that habit years ago) to a black nail polish only to a manicure chameleon.

So now that you know what to expect heres what I did tonight.
I wanted to take a crack at candy cane nails that I saw on pinterest (don't know what pinterest is? poor dear)

So I broke out my Spa Ritual Ice Ice Baby which is a pearl white.
I got this polish about a million years ago at a Beauty Expo, it's not my favourite cause it takes a while to dry (I mentioned I'm impatient right?) but it survived the great "Nail Polish Purge of 2011" due to it's name. yep I'm a sucker for Vanilla Ice, and I'm glad I kept it, it's come in handy now that I'm obsessed with winter nails.

After three coats of the white, 2 episodes of fear factor and half of Canada's Worst Driver I grabbed some painters tape and cut out strips... i should have cut skinnier stripes but well at least I have another hand, then I blocked my nails off in stripes, I kept it inconsistant because well why not.
Then I grabbed OPI Ali's Big Break a shimmery bright red. (yep you guessed it one of my faves)
and painted my nails that I had blocked off. Trick here: peel off the tape while the polish is still wet/tacky otherwise it might want to peel off with the tape. also make sure you don't press the tape down too hard or it might try to pull up the base color (I have a air bubble on my thumb because of that.)

So heres a pic from tonight it's getting late and I don't want to mess it up too bad. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow as well with it cleaned up a bit.
