Orly - Space Cadet

Hey guys,

Okay so for REAL this is the last Orly I have well, for right now anyways.
This is one I've seen for a while but I was never stoked enough to pull the trigger.
This one is kind of similar to Royal Velvet except the shimmer on this is bigger and has a colour shift of it's own. I'm not entirely sure how much I love this one. It kind of doesn't do much for me, but I'll let you guys decide.

This was two coats with one coat of SV, the first coat goes on kinda sheer but the second coat builds up nicely.

Bird Manicure

Hey guys,

What?! Some nail art?! Yay!
So a couple weeks ago two of my dear friends finally got married (yes I say finally seeing as how they'd been dating for 9 years!) So I decided to do something fun and appropriate for the wedding, well that and Cindy told me that I had to have awesome nails for her wedding or else.
First step was setting out on a quest to find the perfect blue to match her bridesmaids dresses. This perfect blue was Zoya Robyn which I have been looking for an excuse to buy for a while now.
She had birds all over her invitations so obviously I would do a bird.... now okay I tried to make this a sparrow but it looks a bit more like a crow. whoops.

Anyways bottom line: She loved them, even though I broke a nail at the wedding.

For this I used

Orly - Royal Velvet

Hey guys,

So remember when I said Fantasea was probably my last Orly from my BTR haul. I was apparently wrong I have two more to show you. One of them being this beauty.

When you look at this in the bottle it looks duochrome but once you get it on your nail you notice  that it's really just blue shimmer in a royal purple base so it does have a duochrome look to it but the shimmer itself doesn't really have any colour shift to it.
It is on the sheer side so this was three coats, you can see closer to the cuticle where its a bit thinner. This would be a cool colour to layer over something different.

Orly - Fantasea

Hey guys,

So I actually think this may be my last Orly that I have to show you after the buttload I ordered from BTR & Hautelook. That being said I didn't look so if it's not, SURPRISE.

I really dug this one. It's a pink & purple duochrome that wasn't actually difficult to photograph. It is just a teensy bit on the sheer side so while if you used a base you could probably get away with one coat this was 3 coats for full opacity. It went on smooth like butter.

Orly - Halley's Comet

Hey guys,

Well we ran out of fun Crazy Polish Lady indies to show you, but tomorrow we begin Cheeky Monkey week! I'm kinda stoked there are some fun polish names in there! Stay tuned for that.

Today I have another random Orly for you guys this one is a teal glass fleck polish and let me tell you holy SMURF hands when I took this one off. This is 3 coats for good coverage.

Orly - Opposites Attract

Hey guys,

So a while back after buying Essie's latest magnetic polish I told myself NO MORE MAGNETIC POLISHES! You have enough! Welp, in typical Caitlin form, when I saw this magnetic Orly on BTR for cheap I couldn't control myself, what's one more? I asked myself, plus this one had a different magnetic pattern than anything in my collection.

I was actually pleasantly surprised, while I still SUCK at getting the magnetic design where I want it I really liked the colour of this polish and how it turned into a midnight blue colour with a shimmer that you don't see in the bottle. I was overall impressed.

This was 2 coats.

Orly - Androgynie

Hey guys,

So this is a polish I had been wanting for a while so when I saw it on BTR I scooped it up. After that I went and read some reviews. and MAN do some people feel strongly about this one. Most people agree while STUNNING in the bottle it has a hard time translating to the nail. I also read that people felt the base on this was too opaque so you don't get any sort of layering jelly effect. I also saw where some people posted instructions on how to APPLY this particular polish.

The glitter in this does stick to the bottom of the bottle so in preparation I kept my bottle upside down for a while before using it and as a result I had no problems and loved the way this turned out.

This was three coats, you could do it in two the third was more for good measure.

Orly - Bailamos

Hey guys,

Okay so imagine if you will this whole post with the Enrique Iglesias song playing in the background I actually can't even say the polish name, I have to sing it.
I grabbed this polish when Orly was featured on Hautelook. I'm not a huge Hautelook fan because of the higher shipping but I really was into this so I had to. I'm so glad I did this teal is amazing. And talk about a spectacular shimmer.

This was 2 coats. No problems with application.

Orly - Berry Blast

Hey guys,

So I spent all of last Thursday in Fort McMurray (to those of you non-Canadians that probably doesn't mean much) for work and while it was probably one of the longest most tiring days of my life, it also spurred a change you will be seeing soon on this blog. While working I somehow managed to gouge a huge chunk out of my middle finger nail. So when I got home I decided before filing all my nails down to nubs I wanted to try something first. Stilettos. Not creepy super long claw stilettos, but short baby stilettos. After looking at Manicure Addict's photos for a while now I've really warmed up to the idea of little stilettos. So I figured I'd test drive them for a while so in the future you'll be seeing some here and there.

Today I have a fun pretty pink for you.
This was two coats. Perfect for summer? I think so!

Music Manicure

Hey guys,

So as a disclaimer I'm saying this I am not happy with the clean up on this mani AT ALL. This was done months ago and by the time I finished it I was super fed up with this manicure. I had had to restart on several fingers and as a result the white was all over my fingers.
This was a manicure I did in honor of going to see Pitch Perfect in theaters for the first time, since then that movie has secured a place as one of my top 10 favourite movies, I don't know if I could actually get sick of it, and I love randomly quoting it to my friend Jill, it ranks right up there with She's The Man for quote-ability.

Anyways here you go, shitty clean up and all. Good thing I love you guys. Please don't hate me for this.

For this I used

Bed Head - Master Mind
Orly Instant Artist - Jet Black

Random Swatch Spam

Hey guys,

Today I just have some random swatches for you, these four polishes were all presents from Chelsea. I actually swatched one of them while I was dogsitting for her then she wound up giving it to me.

Dusk Gradient

Hey guys,

So this has been sitting in my drafts for longer than I really care to admit. This was when I was really playing with gradients. I actually really love the colour scheme on this one. I'm just not 100% pleased with the execution. That being said I'm not above showing you guys crappy work that I've done. Because I love you and all that jazz. Next time I think I'd go without the white base.

For this gradient I used

Orly - After Party
OPI - Swimsuit... Nailed It!
China Glaze - Flying Dragon (Neon)

Orly Random Swatches

Hey guys,

So a while back Orly was on BTR (as they frequently are) and my bestie Nicole noticed and surprised me with a few exciting picks, along with 2 Nail Art colours (not pictured).
Nicole has great taste and of course knows what I like so I was pretty excited to swatch these babies.

TV Inspired: Jem and The Holograms

Hey guys,

So today is the LAST TV inspired manicure. Not that there won't be more random ones in the future but February is coming to a close and March will be getting rid of a lot of back log, so you can expect a lot of big lengthy posts. And some exciting stuff.

So as this month comes to a close I just wanted to mention that there were a lot of shows that I had planned to do manicures for or that were on my original list, however due to creative differences or whatever reason it didn't work.

For our final manicure we have Jem and the Holograms.
Now originally I missed the boat on watching the TV show while it aired on account of not being born and everything. But I remember renting the videos all the time, and then in 2011 my co-workers and I dressed up as the Misfits for Halloween, That was freakin awesome. I wish I could find the picture.
The Misfits were always my favourite, their songs were better and as a general rule they were obviously just more badass.

For this I used
Nfu Oh - 61, 63, 64, 65, 66
Art Club in Neon Pink, Neon Violet, Yellow, Neon Blue, Neon Orange
Orly Instant Artist in Jet Black, Crisp White

TV Inspired: Rescue Me

Hey guys,

So one more manicure after this one! I won't lie I'm kind of stoked. After a month of really trying to push myself creatively I'm so looking forward to plain old boring manicures for a while!

Our manicure today is Rescue Me,
I love Denis Leary, if you haven't read "Why We Suck" or listened to the Audiobook please do it now. I have it on my ipod and listen to it all the time. I have some really great memories of watching Rescue Me, even though I haven't seen all of the final season yet (there were circumstances... and I just never got around to it)

I love fire manicures (I've done several different ones already) The FDNY insignia on my thumb is kind of weak, as a lame excuse I was under the gun to finish up and go to dinner so I rushed it, you can tell. Whatever the point comes across.

For this I used
Sally Hansen - Black Out
Orly Instant Artist in Fiery Red, Orange Peel, Jet Black
Art Club - Yellow
