Island Girl - Oahu Magic

Hey guys,

I'm so not ready for this weekend to end. I don't know about you guys. Right now I would like nothing more than to just sit here on the couch and veg out on an extremely unnecessary amount of salt and vinegar chips, except we don't have any. In my ideal world I would have a pantry stocked full of salt and vinegar chips that are never stale.

This is the last Island Girl polish I have to show you, I reswatched this one because the first was epically horrible. This turned out way better. This is a rainbow glitter topper. The glitter wanted to drag off the nail so I had to employ the "dabbing" technique a bit here.
This is 1 1/2 (The half is the area that needed to be dabbed) coats.

Island Girl - Tropical Sun

Hey guys,

So I saw Endless Love last night, LOVED it! Like I would just like to watch it on repeat. Okay maybe just one more time. Repeat may be overkill. Anyways, great mushy chick flick, if you're into that type of thing (I am)

I have another Island Girl polish to show you guys! This is a gorgeous steel grey. I love this shade, maybe it's because I work in the Steel industry? Probably not, our steel is usually not this pretty unless it's blasted or galvanized. Okay sorry I'm getting off topic.
Anyways this was great. I accidentally put my finger in the pinky. Whoops.
This was two coats.

March Bestie Twin Nails Challenge: Gradient

Hey guys,

So super exciting news!! My bestest nail polish best friend (that's totally a thing) Melissa from Claw of Cthulhu and I have teamed up to do a March Bestie Twin nails challenge!
We've been wanting to do this for a while, but it took some syncing of schedules, but it's happening!!

So here is how this is going to work. Every Monday we are going to coordinate our manicures. We've chosen 5 different themes, but other than that we have no clue what each other is doing. I'm really excited to see how this goes. Will we be on the same page for any of these or will we be polar opposites? So pumped.

So without further ado, I present you Week 1: Gradient.

Island Girl - Island Dream

Hey guys,

So it is a deep freeze outside. It's currently -33 degrees outside with the windchill. So I'm hibernating with my nail polish. I'm going to push as hard as I can to get all my old pictures out the door this month so you guys can enjoy nothing but lightbox pictures!!!

So I have a very pretty Island Girl polish to show you guys. This is pretty much the pink based version of It's A Trap-eze by China Glaze.
This built up great with some impressive glitter pay off. This is two coats.

Island Girl - Island Color

Hey guys,

So Monday's suck, I feel this way every single Monday. I think it should be a rule that on Mondays you get cake or something. Some sort of incentive for starting the week. If every Monday I knew that when I got to work I could have cake I would probably have an easier time waking up. Just Sayin'

I've been sitting on this one for a while, unintentionally. Hey believe it or not there are currently only 2 polishes in my untried pile! Holy crap. I mean thats not including the 15 I'm waiting for in the mail.
This is a pink glitter topper, with different sized pink glitter.
This is one coat over light pink.

Island Girl - Pink Glow In The Dark (and Christmas Lights!)

Hey guys,

Well I hope everyone is having a good Christmas Eve, I've mostly just spent the day cleaning and watching American Dreams, tough life I know.

Today I have a polish I have to rant about for a minute. This is a white glitter glow in the dark topper, so WHY is it called PINK Glow in the Dark that makes ZERO sense, it doesn't glow pink, it glows green, it just makes no sense. That being said the glow was pretty good in this one.

Black & Pink Saran Wrap Manicure

Hey guys,

So a couple months ago I was just looking for something quick and easy. It had been a while since I had done a saran wrap manicure on myself, which struck me as silly, they're so easy and always turn out so great. I love black and pink together so this seemed to just make sense. I wound up getting a lot of compliments on this too.

For this I used

Island Girl - "Magic Mike"
Sally Hansen - Black Out

Crappy St. Patrick's Day Manicure

Hey guys,

So I'm actually surprised that I'm getting this up as today has been pretty busy. So if you ask me my last year's St. Patty's day manicure was better. See it here. Like a lot better. I initially wanted to keep things much more simple this year, maybe a french manicure with green tips, or dots or stripes or something nice and simple. Somewhere along the line I abandoned that for this monstrosity. Although on a happier note I did find my KCCO shirt this year and am wearing it right now.

For this I used

piCture pOlish - Mallard
Zoya - Apple
Zoya - Gia
OPI - Atomic Orange
Nails Inc. - Carnaby Street
China Glaze - Starboard
Island Girl - Aloha Girl
Cult Nails - Time Traveler
Rue Beaute - Trifecta

TV Inspired: Roswell

Hey guys,

So I'm pretty much so insanely stoked right now. I really need to calm down otherwise I am going to start vibrating like a chihuahua. Starting NOW I've begun saving for a trip to Disneyworld. Now I've said it before I am a ridiculous Disney freak, like own all the movies, buy all the Disney stuff, annoy your friends with all your Disney references - kind of Disney freak. So Disneyworld is more or less my heaven. Except when we went last time and it happened so coincide with the Cheerleading finals or something like that. Too much spirit, and it didn't help that Dad kept telling me to go fight the annoying ones. Anyways so next Feb. Disneyworld + Me = Happy Happy Happy.

Okay sorry that was like word vomit. It just had to come out.
Today's manicure is Roswell, man do I miss that show. That being said I'm not 100% happy with how this turned out. the handprint is all funky and I totally misjudged size but I like the way the thumb turned out. I used the DVD box set covers as my colour inspiration. Anyways, so not my best but also not my worst

For this I used
Orly - Le Chateau
Avon - Glisten
Avon - Silver
OPI - Take The Stage
OPI - Did It On 'Em
OPI - Unfor-greta-bly Blue
Island Girl - Hawaiian Color
NYX - Thunder
NYX - Tahitian
Sally Hansen - Black Out

TV Inspired: Chuck

Hey guys,
So quick blurb before I get into today's post.
If you haven't noticed already I have posted a link to my stash spreadsheet in the pages above. It's not as detailed as my spreadsheet I keep on my desktop and there really isn't any ryhme or reason to the way I split it up by sheets. I'll probably continually be tweaking this so keep checking. Or don't thats cool too, I promise I won't be mad.
Second is that I have grand plans to make up a few of my own indie polishes, I haven't decided whether I want to make them for mass consumption or not, it'll really depend on how things work out. I already have all my ideas and inspirations in place. To start I'm only making 4 different ones, and I've only gotten enough to make 4 bottles of each (didn't want to get in over my head) So watch for swatches some time in March!
To the polish! Today's manicure is inspired by none other than one of my Top 10 fave shows of all time. Chuck there is just nothing about that show I don't love. It's another one that should have lasted longer, but on the flip-side at least this way it didn't wind up burnt out like so many great shows.

For this I used
Bed Head - Master Mind
Island Girl - "Tarzan"
Essie - Lacquered Up
Orly Instant Artist in Jet Black & Crisp White
Art Club - Yellow
Quo Instant Artist - Red

Blue Plaid Manicure

Hey guys,

So two weeks ago was the CFR (Canadian Finals Rodeo) and when the CFR comes to town it usually means that normal city-slickers get to dress up in their best (or only) western duds.
As far as western week goes I like to pretend that having horses lends me a little bit of Country girl cred.

Anyways this was my manicure that matched the shirt I wore for one of the days.

For this I used
Island Girl - Aloha Girl
OPI - Ogre The Top Blue
Orly Instant Artist - Crisp White
Orly Instant Artist - True Blue

Finding Nemo Manicure

Hey guys,

So I'm going to post this right now after I've just woken up. So bear with me, my brain may not be 100% woken up.

So a couple weeks ago one of my best friends and I went to go see Finding Nemo in 3D. So good. Love it. Anyways these were my Nemo nails!

For this I used
OPI - Atomic Orange
Orly Instant Artist - Crisp White
Orly Instant Artist - Jet Black
Island Girl - Aloha Girl
Kat Von D - Mad Max

Black Base VS White Base

Hey guys,

So when the Orly Feel the Vibe collection came out it came out with a Black polish (After Party) that while a gorgeous colour on it's own apparently doubles as a base for the neons in the collection.

For some reason using a black base under Neons never occurred to me, it seemed like white was the choice that made sense so I wondered, what would the difference between using a black base and a white base be?

For my white base I used Orly Au Champagne and for my black base I used Orly After Party.
For my neons I used my Island Girl "Magic Mike" polishes.

This is the black base. This took 4 coats of neon over the 1 coat of black. (No topcoat)

This is 2 coats of neon over 1 coat of the white (no topcoat)

Verdict: Most of the colours worked okay over the black (clearly not the yellow) but overall I think it looks a bit better with the white base. Aside from the yellow there isn't a HUGE difference.

Island Girl - Hawaiian Color

Hey guys,

So I know I said yesterday was the last Magic Mike polish BUT I couldn't resist giving you guys a Bonus
Now while this one came with a name "Hawaiian Color" but if you ask me that's a crummy name so instead I told Jill that I wanted to call it "Gold Lamé G-String" she suggested we name it after Matthew McConaughey's character Dallas

That made a lot more sense because this colour IS Dallas haha

so this is

Island Girl - Hawaiian Color aka "Dallas"

it's a bronzey chunky glitter that went on really nicely.
It's over top of A England - Lancelot

Island GIrl - "Tarzan"

Hey guys

Alright, so tonight I bring you the very last Island Girl polish named after a Magic Mike character.
Now while this definitely wasn't my favourite character, nor would I ever really want to see him strip, his characters name just fit so much better with the color of the polish than "Tito"

This one is named after Kevin Nash's character "Tarzan"

This is
Island Girl - "Tarzan"

Now more than being a neon green this is like "Crayola Box Grass Green" as Lindsay put it which is exactly how I felt as I wore it.

This dries as a satin/matte so this has a coat of Essie Good to Go over top.
