Nerdist Manicure

Hey guys,

So today's manicure may be a bit obscure for some of you guys but it's very near and dear to my heart. So The Nerdist is a website/podcast network/way of life. That has personally been a life saver for me. It all started last year when Dad got sick, I found it really hard to listen to music while I worked since well when things turn upside down it seems that every song you listen to was written to make you cry.
So I turned to something I had long meant to check out, The Nerdist Podcast. And well some days it was all that kept me going. Since then I've become a faithful listener. If you have a nerdy bone in your body I highly recommend it.

So this one is for them.

Nails Inc. - Trafalgar Crescent

Hey guys,

So I think I'm with everyone else when I say I'm sick of this cold. I blame the quick warm streak we had last week. Seriously, most of the snow on the roads and sidewalks melted and then today it goes and snows. Ugh so annoying.

I picked up this polish at Sephora on New Years Eve and I'm so happy I did, check how gorgeous this is. It's a duochrome, shimmer base chock full of different silver glitters. They hit the nail on the head calling this type of polish Galaxy. Because it totally looks like a lazy man's version of Galaxy nails.
This is one coat over black.

Nails Inc - Sweets Way

Hey guys,

So I have another Nails Inc. polish for you guys today. The Nails Inc sprinkles collection are polishes I have been pondering for a long time now. Well I finally grabbed one, and of course grabbing one made me want more, but we shall see what the future holds on that front. This is Sweets Way which is pink, blue & silver glitter in a white sheer base. At first this appears to be a jelly sandwich then when it tries the glitter really shines through. I think one coat of something sheer could make this a gorgeous jelly sandwich. This was two coats. then for shits and giggles I added a matte top coat in the bottom picture.

Nails Inc - Noho

Hey guys,

So this was a polish that I knew I needed as soon as I saw it. The downside being that it only comes as part of a "Bling It On" set with swarovski elements and tiny skulls along with nail glue. I wound up giving the nail bling to my friend at work, while just keeping the polish, which is a bit insane because that means I spent $30 on this polish. Or as I like to think about it $15 on the polish and $15 on a present for Kailey. That being said only crap I love this so much, it actually looks like leather. I would love to get my hands on the other shades of this, but I haven't seen them here in Canada and I am for sure not paying $30 for each polish. I'm a little crazy but I'm not THAT crazy.

Crappy St. Patrick's Day Manicure

Hey guys,

So I'm actually surprised that I'm getting this up as today has been pretty busy. So if you ask me my last year's St. Patty's day manicure was better. See it here. Like a lot better. I initially wanted to keep things much more simple this year, maybe a french manicure with green tips, or dots or stripes or something nice and simple. Somewhere along the line I abandoned that for this monstrosity. Although on a happier note I did find my KCCO shirt this year and am wearing it right now.

For this I used

piCture pOlish - Mallard
Zoya - Apple
Zoya - Gia
OPI - Atomic Orange
Nails Inc. - Carnaby Street
China Glaze - Starboard
Island Girl - Aloha Girl
Cult Nails - Time Traveler
Rue Beaute - Trifecta

TV Inspired: Game Of Thrones

Hey guys,

Today's manicure is Game of Thrones. I fricken love that show! I mean really all I need to say is Khal Drogo, The Hound, and Jon Snow. 3 perfect reasons to watch, Jaime Lannister is pretty hot too, once you get past him being a huge asswipe.

So I basically did four of the main sigils (or I tried... some are a tad abstract) Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, and Baratheon.

For this I used
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
Essie - Turning Heads Red
Sally Hansen - Black Out
Sephora by OPI - Frankly I Don't Give A-Dam
Layla - Golden Nugget
Art Club - Yellow
Orly Instant Artist in Jet Black, Crisp White, Fiery Red

TV Inspired: The Vampire Diaries

Hey guys,

So our manicure today is The Vampire Diaries.
Here's a fun fact: I went to high school with Sara Canning who plays Aunt Jenna in the first couple seasons. We had a drama class together. She's probably one of the nicest people.
That being said now that Elena is all over Damon I'm not very impressed. I tend to fall for the super broody good guys, it disgusts my friend Jill but it also means that we never usually fight over guys.

So here I have the Salvatores Day ring (thats an S not a $ just for the record) and Elena's locket.
Along with some super cheesy vamp teeth. I also took this opportunity to use one of my polishes I made.

For this I used:
Sally Hansen - Black Out
Bed Head - Master Mind
Orly - Stone Cold
Nails Inc - Trafalgar Square
Avon - Silver
Hoof Polish - Matinee Rouge
Orly Instant Artist in Jet Black & Fiery Red

TV Inspired: 2 Broke Girls

Hey guys,

So tonight we have some 2 Broke Girls for you. I really love Kat Dennings and I've had more than one person tell me that her character in the show could be my (fraternal) twin. Also she has a horse in her backyard which is pretty much my dream, except I don't know if Briar would be totally cool with Breezer and Timmi invading her backyard.

I actually really liked how this turned out, the uniforms are kind of wonky and apparently I didn't feel the need to clean up at all after this one, so just look past that.

For this I used

Zoya - Lo
OPI - Step Right Up
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
Orly - Frisky
Dollish Polish - Girls Rule, Boys Drool
NYX - Dancing Queen
Sparitual - Ice Ice Baby
Art Club in Yellow & Bright Blue
Orly Instant Artist - Crisp White
Quo Instant Artist - Red

TV Inspired: New Girl

Hey guys,

So up today we have a New Girl inspired manicure. For the longest time there was no way you would get me to watch New Girl, I wanted nothing to do with it. Yes I love Max Greenfield but not enough to watch this show. Well I finally caved in to peer pressure and it really did not take that long before I was completely obsessed with it. And then one day while my friends and I were sitting on our horses chilling in the middle of the arena talking about New Girl and my coach pointed this out

Yep, Rock was Schmidt the douchey but good hearted one. Breezer was Nick, the defacto leader. Dodger was Winston, the token black dude. It's a true story.

Anyways this mani comes from Jess' rant about touching glitter and rocking a lot of polka dots.

For this I used
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
Sephora by OPI - It's Totally Karma
Sally Hansen - Black Out
Zoya - Whitney
OPI - Fly
Bed Head - Mastermind

TV Inspired: Smallville

Hey guys,

Today's TV manicure is: Smallville. Now anyone who knows me knows I am a huge Superman fan, and when Smallville debuted back in 2001 I watched it religiously. Then somewhere around season 6 I lost interest and got tired, not because I didn't still love the characters (okay Chloe drove me nuts) but because I am a terrible victim of mid-season lulls. Those mid-season breaks kill me and I have a tendancy to lose interest. However around season 9 I began watching again, and rewatched all the episodes back from the pilot and re-fell in love and finished the series out through the 10th and final season.

So this manicure showcases the earlier days of Smallville.
We have the Kryptonian symbol etched in the wall of the cave, the Smallville High colours, and of course Kryptonite.

For this I used
China Glaze - Stone Cold
NYX - Blood
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
piCture pOlish - Kryptonite
Art Club - Yellow
Quo Instant Artist - Platinum Glitter

8 Days of Halloween - Day 6 - Candy Corn

Hey guys,

So yesterday was quite busy. I got almost every single thing on my list done.

Pumpkins (AVENGERS! ASSEMBLE!)

Fixing Briar's costume

The only thing that really didn't get done was the front yard. It snowed all day so it really wasn't worth it.

This is my Candy Corn gradient.
For this I used
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
Essie - Fear or Desire
Essie - Blanc

Sunrise Gradient

Hey guys,

So a while back, my help was enlisted by a co-worker to paint her nails for her upcoming Dragon Boat tournament. Anyways so after throwing a few options her way we decided on a gradient. So I decided it was time to practice my gradients using a technique I hadn't before. You can tell that I didn't use a white base under my pinky. Personally I actually like that nail best, it's subtle. We wanted Kathryn's colours to pop though so the white base worked best.

I also apparently didn't bother cleaning up my manicure before taking a picture.
For my first go around with this new technique it's not too bad if you ask me.

For this I used
OPI - Atomic Orange
Nails Inc. - Carnaby Street

Black & White Watermarble

Hey guys,

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Well you fellow Canadians anyways.
So last night I got to see Nicole, and for those of you who read my blog semi regularly you'll know that when Nicole comes to town often new nail polish follows her. She gave me a couple fun ones. A UV colour changing polish and a glow in the dark polish. October is so the month for glowing polishes! I'll hopefully have those up here soon.

Today I have hands down the best water marble I've done to date. Still not perfect but its come a LONG way from my first terrible one I did.

For this I used

Essie - Blanc
Wet N Wild Fantasy Makers - Black Pearl
Nails Inc. - Electric Lane
