Formula X - Marine

Hey guys,

So about a month ago now I had dragged the boyfriend into Sephora during a trip to the mall (I had wanted to go to the Lego store too) and while there I took a moment to browse the Formula X polishes which to be completely honest had never really tickled my fancy, they just seemed like a lot of what I already had. And after the debacle with the Sephora X Ariel polishes  - Also wtf Sephora no more Disney sets? How can you just QUIT like that?! - I just always passed them up however I was in a shopping mood. So I picked out three and they came home with me.

MAN IS MY MIND CHANGED. All I can say is that the impromptu polish purchase turned into me hopping on Sephora.com and ordering 10 more Formula X's mostly all on sale though.

I'm going to show you my favourite first. I was SO in love with this color, this was from the Seaglass Collection which is essentially sparkly matte glitters with no texture.

I LALALALALALAALLOVED this one. The application was great and wearing it just made me so happy. I didn't even get mad when it gave me smurf hands to remove.
This was two coats.

Julep - Emerson

Hey guys,

Happy Saturday everyone, it's a beautiful day here and I spent the morning introducing the little girl who lives next door to my horse. And I discovered that Animorphs is on Netflix now and totally geeked out this morning and watched a bunch of it. I swear Netflix is awesome for good 90's tv shows. It just needs Brotherly Love and I'll be set.

A few weeks ago when Julep had their red marker sale (which I still wasn't blown away by) one of the polishes I picked up was this one, it was $2.99 I think, and I have the other two speckled polishes by Julep so it seemed right to round out my collection. This was a bit more sheer than I expected. This was three coats, with a matte top coat since if you ask me all speckled polishes should be matte.

Ciate - Chalkboard Manicure

Hey guys,

Has anyone else noticed that this month seems to be FLYING by? I have my cousin's wedding to go to next week and that suddenly just dawned on me, so of course I was scrambling and crawling through my closet trying to figure out what dress to wear. Why is it bad luck to wear black to a wedding? BLACK IS THE BEST!

So a couple weeks ago I got a fantastic package in the mail from Miss Melissa over at Claw of Cthulhu. Aka Nail Polish Bestie, aka just all around awesome chick. And inside was the Ciate chalkboard manicure set. This was my first experience with Ciate so I was kind of excited. Now You can totally get this same look with some nail art pens and a good matte topcoat but this is still fun. The kit includes a matte black, 4 chalk pens, and a matte top coat.

At first I put the matte black on over top of my regular basecoat. BIG MISTAKE. the matte wanted to dry and crack like it was a straight up crackle. So I removed and put it on without a basecoat like the recommend. Much better plus it had a fantastic chalky matte finish, perfect matte.

Then the chalk pens, I found them a bit hard to work with since all the liquid chalk seems to want to pool really easy once it gets going. And my yellow pen was totally shot, the nub wouldn't spring back out.
So I just attempted some random designs. Waited for it to dry then slapped the matte top coat on.

Overall I think this is pretty cool, but I don't think buying the set it totally necessary, unless of course you want to!

Supernatural Lacquer - GED & A Give Em Hell Attitude

Hey guys,

So I'm watching A Cinderella Story on TV right now, man remember when Chad Michael Murray was hot and not a total greaseball? My how the mighty have fallen. I haven't seen this movie in forever, frick I forgot how much I love it. I won't lie my go to is the newest one with Lucy Hale, but lets get real they're all a guilty pleasure.

I have another beauty from the Supernatural collection today! This turned out to be my sleeper favourite. I didn't expect to love this as much as I did. This is an army-green silk type polish that dries matte which is gorgeous but really pops when you add a top coat. I did both on the manicure below. Application was super smooth too. This is two coats.

Sally Hansen - Fuzzy Fantasy

Hey guys,

So while I was in Palm Springs, Nicole and I went to CVS because I needed to buy lip balm and nail supplies. While I was there I picked up 2 polishes, I had seen the Fuzzy Coat polishes around and had been curious but hadn't looked too hard for them in stores. So I decided to go for it and grab one.

Normally bar glitter is not my thing. Although I've come to realize that there seems to be a couple kinds of bar glitter - thicker and more sturdy bar glitter that is a pain in the butt and always wants to stick up. And the thinner almost softer bar glitter that is easy to work with. This bar glitter definitely falls into the latter category.
I wasn't sure how this would build up so I decided to take pictures at a bunch of different coats. I think I prefer one coat the best.

Illamasqua - Ouija

Hey guys,

So yesterday I got invited to the hockey game last minute and as a result I totally didn't remember that I still had to blog for the night so please excuse the lapse in service yesterday.

I have an awesome pink for you today. This is from Illamasqua's supernatural collection. These are suppose to glow under black light. Well of course I didn't have a black light handy so I will have to take their word for that. Application was great. As I've come to expect from my Illa's I also decided to matte some of my fingers
This was two coats

Bliss Polish - Sons of Anarchy Collection

Hey guys,

So like I mentioned earlier I meant to post these to coincide with the season 6 finale but I was sick and like I said it just threw off my groove so instead I'm showing you these now.
When I caught wind of these on instagram I hauled ass over to Bliss Polish's shop on Storenvy and grabbed the ones I wanted. Which was all but two from the collection. I didn't grab Tara & Lyla since they didn't really call out to me. The rest however sure did.

Zoya - Kimber

Hey guys,

We have another Pink Wednesday! Actually I'm running low on my pinks in my back log so no guarantee next Wednesday will be pink but I'm sure you can all live with that.
Today I have a super fun pink Zoya for you! This was from last Summer's Surf collection (I'm only missing one now, I really LOVED this collection). The formula on this was a bit streaky. I can live with 3 coats though considering how gorgeous this is.

Pink Ombre Manicure & What to Do When You Fall Out of Love With a Brand?

Hey guys,

So first I want to talk about something thats been bugging me for a while and I want to talk about. I considered putting this in it's own post but decided in the end to stick it with random manicure instead. Feel free to just skip the part and head on down to the pictures below.

Anyways so something I've been thinking a lot about lately is "What do you do when you've fallen out of love with a brand or company?" This doesn't have to apply strictly to nail polish although in my case it does.
In my case this is Cult Nails. Now I really do like the polish itself (I almost feel like I'm in a "Don't bring the kids into this" position, the kids being the nail polish) It usually has a great formula and there are some really fun colours (Yes, Flushed & Charming I'm looking at you two). However I feel like I really just can't support the actual company. A couple months back when Cult Nails reached a milestone on Facebook they had a sale, right in the middle of my no buy. So of course me and a friend took to Twitter to whine about being in the middle of our no buy. We were totally both on board to break our no buy and splurge and hoard some more Cult Nails. When we actually got a reply out of Maria. All it said was "Sorry?" Now the adult in me is saying "Stop being a baby, suck it up"
Bottomline is I felt a little bit unappreciated as a customer. Whether or not it is justified.
Now I find myself looking at my polishes I have with a bit of resentment, then I feel guilty (polishes have feelings right?)
I wish this had happened after I had grabbed a few more polishes I (still) want, I wish I could be less immature about this.
So really what happens next? Guess only time will tell.

On a lighter less whiney note: I love a good ombre mani even though I tend to really suck at them (for some reason I aways pick a colour that just throws everything off) Anyways I thought this one was decent enough to share with you guys. I was rockin some pretty serious nubs when I did this too. blech I hate when my nails are that short however it has to be done sometimes. Then I topped all the pinks off with a coat of Zoya Chloe and then some Matte About You.

For this I used
Essie - Foot Loose
 Zoya - Whitney
OPI - If You Moust You Moust
OPI - Sparrow Me The Drama
OPI - Pink Friday
Zoya - Chloe

TV Inspired: Duck Dynasty

Hey guys,

Today's manicure is Duck Dynasty okay so I f*cking LOVE this show. The first time I saw the preview I was like wow really? But never do I laugh as hard as I do watching this. I am so in love with the Robertson clan, and honestly one of my favourite things about this show is the respect that the kids show their parents and grandparents. I'm sorry but that kind of respect doesn't happen often these days. Love it, and I really loved getting to hang out with my cousins and just all laugh our asses off this past November during a DD marathon. The new rule is if you don't love it you can just GTFO of our family. BOOM.

Sorry I love it. Now you probably won't see that many American flags from me, not that I have any problem with that at all it just seems weird to be walking around with the stars and stripes on my nails, although This was my Presidents Day manicure so that seemed fitting. So here we have camo and of course one of Willie's bandannas (I couldn't draw a duck to save my life but in hindsight I should have drawn a beard!)

For this I used

OPI - Stranger Tides
China Glaze - Agro
China Glaze - Mahogany Magic
Bed Head - Master Mind
Cult Nails - Time Traveler
Orly Instant Artist in Crisp White & Fiery Red
Essie - Matte About You

TV Inspired: American Restoration

Hey guys,

So when it comes to TV I will watch almost anything (anything but Cake Boss.... I can't stand him) one of my favourite channels is the History Channel, with Pawn Stars, American Pickers & American Restoration, they've hit the jackpot (Counting Cars is great too) so this manicure is dedicated to my favourite of the three: American Restoration I love watching them bring stuff back to life. Plus Tyler & Brettly are pretty adorable too.

So for this manicure if you watch the show you should be able to appreciate this.
the index finger is the old rusted Coke machine, the middle is the Coke machine sandblasted. The ring finger is the Coke machine painted. The pinky is the final product.

For this I used
Essie - Turning Heads Red
China Glaze - Desert Sun
China Glaze - Hook and Line
Orly Instant Artist - Crisp White
Quo Instant Artist - Red

TV Inspired: Smallville

Hey guys,

Today's TV manicure is: Smallville. Now anyone who knows me knows I am a huge Superman fan, and when Smallville debuted back in 2001 I watched it religiously. Then somewhere around season 6 I lost interest and got tired, not because I didn't still love the characters (okay Chloe drove me nuts) but because I am a terrible victim of mid-season lulls. Those mid-season breaks kill me and I have a tendancy to lose interest. However around season 9 I began watching again, and rewatched all the episodes back from the pilot and re-fell in love and finished the series out through the 10th and final season.

So this manicure showcases the earlier days of Smallville.
We have the Kryptonian symbol etched in the wall of the cave, the Smallville High colours, and of course Kryptonite.

For this I used
China Glaze - Stone Cold
NYX - Blood
Nails Inc - Carnaby Street
piCture pOlish - Kryptonite
Art Club - Yellow
Quo Instant Artist - Platinum Glitter
