August Julep Maven Box

Hey guys,

I hope you all are enjoying your weekends! I am just now wrapping up my Marvel movie marathon (I had a few interruptions, for instance what was supposed to be a movie date last night with a friend turned into a 6 1/2 hour conversation. Which was awesome)

Today I have my August Julep Maven box to show you guys! So many people had a lot of issues with their boxes this month. Including my best friend who has started up her own blog reviewing subscription boxes which you can check out here) Thankfully however my box was received fully intact.
This month the boxes included a screen cleaner which is awesome, I have a screen protector for my phone so it doesn't work as well but it is still awesome.
Honestly the colours in this box were amazing, I probably should have upgraded.

I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday! I've decided to have a impromptu Marvel marathon and watch as many Avengers movies as I can (in chronological order) before I go over to a friend's tonight. That being said whatever I don't get to I can just watch tomorrow. 

Today I have the August Birthstone polish from Julep to show you guys. To anyone who doesn't know August's birthstone is Peridot which is a limey green gemstone. I think Julep nailed it on this one. I love when they do full coverage glitters. This was three coats with no undies.

Yay it's finally the long weekend! I don't know about the rest of you but we get Monday off so I'm pretty excited to have an extra day.

Today I have the very last Piggy Paint to show you then NEVER AGAIN will you see a horrid water based paint on this blog again. This was the only creme I had gotten. I don't know if this makes it better or worse. You can see how streaky it is. This was four coats.

Hey guys,

So I don't know if this happens to anyone else but occasionally I discover bizarre things about myself and it surprises me. Like today I realized I have a thing for bookends. Who knew? I was out at Winners with a friend of mine and I came across a set of bookends that look like two books (One standing up and one on it's side) with the words "Spells" & "Potions" written on each one and an Owl perched on the book on it's side. Anyways so I decided I had to have these eclectic book ends well one was broken. Someone had ripped the owl off the book. Normally I would have been like that sucks but no I had to have these so much I BOUGHT THE BROKEN BOOKEND. And brought it home and fixed it. It looks good as new and with a little hot glue and acrylic paint you can't tell the difference. Really though, Bookends. Who knew?

I have another awful Piggy Paint to show you today. Honestly this colour may have been one of the most disappointing colours I wound up getting I think mostly because I expected this to be much more purple than it is. Even my niece asked "Is this the purple one?" Of course once it's sitting beside the pink it's clearly purple. I think I'm just extremely disappointed in this whole brand. I've run out of anything positive to say. This was four coats. Exact same horrid application and removal.

Hey guys,

Today we continue with the "Water-based polishes suck" series. I don't know what do you guys think? Do you think I'm being too harsh on these? I mean I understand the idea of wanting something a bit more natural but can we really not figure out something with a better less streaky less sheer formula?
Maybe I'm asking too much. This is the neon pink shimmer I got, this has a bit of a blue flash to it and over all I didn't HATE the colour of this. I still hate the formula.

So I have posted the video of myself doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to my facebook page so you can click the link in the sidebar to head to my facebook page to watch it. It's not super exciting although there is that one part where my videographer gets distracted by my dog.

Today we start a series titled "Water-based nail polish is stupid!"
Okay maybe that is a bit harsh but really. About a month ago I ordered a few different Piggy Paint polishes to paint my nieces' nails. I figured these are targeted to kids so why not then I could swatch them at the same time. Well let me tell you I don't care how natural this stuff is WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT. Seriously it's streak city. I don't even know how many coats it would take to reach full opacity. This here is four coats. Then if it doesn't just peel off and you have to remove it with remover it is a HUGE PAIN. Piggy Paint does sell it's own remover, that would likely make a difference but who knows. Yeah these are quick drying but honestly just teach your children not to eat their nail polish. "Natural as Mud" well last time I checked we taught our kids not to eat mud either so honestly if you're worried about the chemicals just go for a polish like Zoya or Julep without the harsh chemicals.  I have a few more of these to show you so stay tuned.

Aaahh well alas the day has come. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has reached my doorstep. So tomorrow I will be accepting the challenge from my best friend. I will try to remember to post the video for you guys, I may just post it to my facebook but I will make sure it's accessible to you guys.

Today I have a pink polish for you. well I promise it's pink it looks like my perfect nude in all these pictures but it is pink, it's a very rosy pink. It is also full of tiny gold glitter which doesn't do much in this polish other than make it look a tad gritty. On the website it looked WAY more pinky. Overall I don't dislike it since it was pinker in person but man these pictures don't make it look appealing. Bright side is proceeds from this go to breast cancer research. This was two coats.

So today I am proud to say that I popped my Goonies cherry! Yep, believe it or not I had gone this long without ever seeing The Goonies. Sorry Dad, you let me down. It was AMAZING. And seriously a young Josh Brolin, what a babe!

So tonight I had a great dinner catching up with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. Sometimes there is nothing better than just talking for hours about random stuff. So much fun.

Today I have a different polish to show you. Okay so this is a white polish that has got golden glitter in it. Except the golden glitter is all but invisibke to the naked eye and in pictures. Although if you squint hard and do the hokey pokey while singing the macarena song you can barely catch a glimpse of it in some of the pictures. Basically this is just a nice white polish. It applied nicely though! Two coats.

So first I want to say that I totally appreciated all the wasp stories you guys shared yesterday, I think everyone has a wasp encounter story. And anyone who doesn't needs to spend a bit of time outside. First time I was ever stung by a wasp was when one got stuck in my braid in grade three. Jerk stung me on my head.

Okay so I am super grateful for my love Melissa having introduced me to Iggy Azalea, I now know every single word to Fancy. So when Dollish Polish announced it's new Limited Edition shade inspired by Iggy and Fancy, BANK ACCOUNT BE DAMNED. I had to have it! And it was so worth it.

So I hate wasps, seriously I know a lot of people are all "Oh they won't bother you if you don't bother them," I call bullshit. Wasps are assholes! They made my life way more difficult while I was simply trying to change the cabin air filter. Jerks, pretty sure anyone watching me had a good laugh when I slammed the hood of my Escape then fled up the driveway.

Today we wrap up the Ultimate Fandom collection! Well part one anyways, yes there is a Part 2 soon to be released by Dollish Polish. This was initially a bonus shade only available to those who purchased the whole collection then they made it available to everyone due to demand, Although those who ordered the whole collection got it for free. I wasn't sure initially how I felt about this but once I got it on my nails I loved it!

So first day back at work after vacation SUCKS, okay in reality it really wasn't that bad. In other news has anyone been watching Outlander?? I am dying to re-read the books, actually just read. I think I only ever read the first one. I just feel the need to talk about it with someone!

Okay so I left the last legit Fandom polish (tomorrow's is a bonus) for my favourite one. Yep Doctor Who! It's a blue holo (squee) and inspired by Doctor Who so obviously I am all over this. LOVE
